Jon-Erik Hexum was a renowned American actor and model, best known for his lead roles in the TV series Voyagers! and Cover Up.
Jon-Erik Hexum was born on November 5, 1957, in Englewood, New Jersey, to parents, Gretha and Thorleif Hexum, who were of Norwegian descent. He was raised alongside his elder brother, Gunnar, in Tenafly, New Jersey.
Jon-Erik Hexum and his brother by their mother after their parents divorced when Hexum was four. Concerning his education, Jon graduated from Tenafly High School and proceeded to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland to study biomedical engineering. He later transferred to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
Following his graduation, Jon-Erik Hexum moved to New York in 1980 to pursue his acting career and while working as an apartment cleaner, he met Bob LeMond, John Travolta’s manager who saw great potential in Hexum. He took his advice and relocated to Los Angeles in September 1981 to audition for a movie called Summer Lovers.
Jon-Erik Hexum lost the role but was soon cast in the lead role of Phineas Bogg in the NBC series Voyagers! which aired during the 1982–83 television season.

Jon-Erik Hexum died by an accidental self-inflicted blank cartridge gunshot to the head on the set of the movie, Cover Up. Due to the requirements for portraying his character, Jon-Erik Hexum was given a functional gun and blanks.
When the scene did not play as the director wanted it to in the master shot, there was a delay in filming on October 12, 1984. Jon-Erik Hexum went ahead to play around to prevent boredom, putting the revolver to his right temple and pulling the trigger.
Jon-Erik Hexum was rushed to the hospital, however, on October 18, which was six days after the accident, he was declared brain-dead at the age of 26.
