Michael K Williams: The Wire Actor Dies At 54

American actor Michael K Williams, best known for starring in HBO drama series, “The Wire,” has reportedly been found dead in his New York apartment.

According to reports, the actor died from a suspected drug overdose. Though this has not been officially confirmed.

Reports say New York Police Department spokesman said police went to Williams’ Brooklyn penthouse after receiving an emergency call on Monday afternoon, September 6th.

Reports say two officials have said he had what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the apartment as well. The city medical examiner’s office is said to be currently looking into his death and no official cause has been released yet.

His rep, Marianna Shafran, confirmed Williams’s passing but did not detail the cause of death. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter she wrote: “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”

HBO released a statement following his passing and said, “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years. While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him. We send our deepest condolences to his family for this immeasurable loss.”

Williams had openly discussed his struggles with drugs over the years. He was 54 years.

In “The Wire”, Willaims played Omar Little, a streetwise robber of drug gangs. He was also known for playing Albert “Chalky” White in the Boardwalk Empire TV series.
